Sorry I couldn't help with the hatchet. I got mine at a flea market and reground it. So I have no idea who makes it.

no he definitely has a job or more likely a home business. maybe a machine shop. much of his stuff is not cheap and I don't take him as a government handout type.

I've got a bunch of hatchets I've picked up at auctions and yardsales. The kids use them for splitting kindling. Have yet to meet a hatchet I didn't like. Maybe it's just me, but for a hatchet, one is as good as another.

Based on his chainsaw mill videos, I would highly doubt he's a machinist.

gransfors bruks are kinda nice but a bit spendy. Last a long time though. I'm pretty sure they make the husky ones.

I have several hatchets but wanted one I just throw in the box on the splitter so I picked up a Harbor Freight cheapo $7. It sharpened well & holds an edge well.

I too think the Estwing is a nice option. I grew up with using my dad's. I recently bought the X7 to match my other X mauls, kind of disappointed in its performance

I've been swinging a hatchet quite a bit lately. I've got one of those Estwing's that was given to me for my birthday probably 25+ years ago. It's good, but a little on the light side. My favorite is a Cobalt from Lowe's, but it took a bunch of filing...like most things these days.
