Why?

I saw this video a while back, and have been wondering what he was checking for:

The chainsaw guy log testing McCulloch 250 - YouTube

What I want to know is why he's checking the saw's temperature, and what temperature he is looking for. Is there a certain temp that the saw needs to be at before it can go to work? You can see from the vid that he uses a cheap infrared pyrometer [temp sensor] to check the temp of the saw, on both sides.

Any ideas about this?

Thanx in advance!

He is accomplishing nothing. I have no doubt Rich is a knowledgeable guy but the temp check shows nothing

Rich is putting on a show to sell you the chainsaw. . . .

Don't wast your money on a optical pyrometer.

You your natural senses to determine the temperature of the chainsaw

Feel of the air blowing off the cylinder?

Notice any hot smells?

Hear any cracking and poping when you shut it down?

Listen to the engine running that the mixture is set correctly.
