I have a PM 1000 and I would like to set it up to cut 30'' diameter trees. The trees are yellow pine and Douglas fur.what would be the best saw chain?3/8 or 404,chisel or semi chisel,50,58,63 ga?I do have 50' of stihl 3/8, 50ga chisel chain.could I use it on a 30'' bar?

Bad Cut, A 30"bar isn't needed on 30" diameter trees-24 inch bars are actually easier to use. Your PM 1000 should be able to pull the 30"bar fine though and the 3/8ths should be slightly faster than .404. Gauge only matters in terms of matching the bar groove.

P100/pm 1000

As far as I know (CSCC) the PM 1000 was produced by Partner, and very similiar to the P 100 (not super). Is it correct that the ignition on the PM is non-electronic, while it is electronic on the Partner?

Both saws are the same as each other the PM1000 is fitted with electronic ignition, i sold heaps of them.

PS I'm after the cover that holds the bar and chain on if anyone has a spare drop me a line.

This last pic i just posted shows my saw it's only got about 2 hrs on it as it was fitted to a kart it has never cut wood.

they are same saw looks just like this with pro mac stickers.
I thought the PM1000 was the P100, not the P100 Super....

As a sidenote, the P100 Super was also sold in Jonsered dress, as the 1020.

Yes it was cut so the powerhead could be mounted to a Kart, otherwise it would have been a full wrap handle, the ones i sold where only a half wrap as most timbercutters preferr to cut lower to the ground out here.

At their time of release out here in Australia they were fitted with 404 pitch chain and a 24" bar, just a few months ago i serviced a PM1000 i sold in 1980 one of my old customers who bought the saw from me brand new.

The saw was used to produce fence posts so it had the job of ripping the posts to length doing hundreds of them the PM1000 has proven itself but i didn't expect to see them still going in 2006 thats 25 years of good service.

Scott, Sawtroll brought this thread up in your Mac thread.
I am going to bump it up cause it has some good pics etc in it.

Thanks ST.

I aslo forgot the last Mac replacement coil

A local dealer had been putting in warranty claims to get the mac replacement coils because it turned out the Bosch coils were just as unreliable as the Partner electronic coils before them.

Mac never made the dealers return the alleged failed coils and the swap came with an adapter, coil and new flywheel.

Everyone should recognize the replacement coil.

The first pic shows an original Bosch coil not mounted.

The second shows the replacement fitted.

What's in YOUR PM 1000?

RM,

Look up Harry Wallenberg in LA. An internet search should land you there. I'll bet he can help.
