I read a post awhile back about Baileys coming up with a "Big Bore kit" for the Dolmer and Makita 6400/6401. Now this isn't the kit currently being offered. Its an 80+ cc kit. Anyone heard anything about it or its availability?

It is not in the 2008 Master Catalog, but they have it online:

Chainsaw Piston and Cylinder Kit for Makita 6401 / 7301 /7901 and Dolmar 6400 / 7300 7900 Item # DM 038 130 030 Only $164.95

Qty: In Stock
Shipping weight 3.00 lbs.

These stock kits include a cylinder, piston, rings, piston pin, and piston pin clips. We recommend using a piston ring clamp set (Part Number 10429) when changing a piston. This is a 79cc displacement version. Piston diameter is 52mm. Fits the following chainsaws:

Makita 6401 / 7301 / 7901 and Dolmar 6400 / 7300 / 7900

I am aware of the kit that you are talking about. About a month ago there was a post about the kit you are taking about, Then one of the bailey crew posted up and said that a new kit in excess of 80cc was in the works for the 6400 and 6401.
Does anyone know the status of this kit?

I'm also curious.

I recieved a PM from Nick at Bailey's who stated they were still in the development stages. I keep my ears and eyes open for the first initial release because I have another worn 6401 that I would like to put the Big Bore kit on.

did you buy a special T-27 long reach tool or use the stock one in the kit, it looks like it may jump and mess up the bolts and require a machine shop to fix it. Baileys has a T handle but I have been told you need a ratchet drive and torque wrench. I want to do this conversion this week but only have the stock T-27 wrench.
