maple moss

I have heard that it's not harmful but just looking to confirm...

I have a large red maple which has alot of green moss growing on the trunk and up to about 7'

It's a brighter green on the base and then gets more of a dull green as it gets higher.

Any input would be great.

Every one of the bigleafs around here have it. It doesnt do them any harm and makes them a lot more interesting to look at.
