Here is a "McCulloch" saw I recently stumbled over in the attic. Jenn Feng model sold by Sears. I guess I will have to get this one cleaned up and moved into the display one of these days.

The air filter cover is a carry over from the 32/35/38cc models, the stop switch was use as far back as the 10 Series.

I had a 2050AV with 18" bar and .325 chain that wasn't a terrible saw. Not an impressive 50cc model but handy for occasional use.

realized when I was falling asleep last night that I only put half of the EDTA in the solution for the last 2 gallons I made yesterday that I 2nd soaked the muffler ad 1st soaked the bar in. freaking senile. it still worked pretty well. looks like muffler has some kind of zinc or galvanized coating that was under the paint. really protected it.

Well yesterday a mate needed a hand with a big blue gum log. She's big 20231014_103901.jpg20231014_103916.jpg
Very hard cutting. It's been down a while. Was actually going to fell this tree myself but I had only a small gap to put it in a very residential area and was a massive tree. The local line company has a tree crew and did it very cheap instead 20231014_105228.jpg
The 800 lost another starter screw and its metric and also turned down heads so I had to park it and finish it with the 85020231014_114303.jpg
850 to the rescue 20231014_121736.jpg
Not quite three cuts to a tank. 20231014_132354.jpg
Fone went flat so no more pictures but yeah just rolled it over and snip snip. The big old forklift was handy

The 850 really like fuel!!! Mine is the same way, but I just remember that a 36" round splits in to a bunch of firewood!!!

They certainly do and a tank that's not massive too. I actually generally start running out of oil 1st. Probably pretty generous on the button for 32inch bar I guess but ahh prefer to keep it slicked up well than dry

bark looks like wood.

Yeah it pretty much is. Strange wood if never delt with it before. The bark falls off every year and is actually to create forest fires of all things in native aussie land. The eco system depends on the fires

It's technically a soft wood. It's a bit like elm to cut I'm told. Quite stringy and saps power. Need a good chain and grunt. The average homeowner saw even on say 12 to 16 inch stuff will really struggle especially if not green

Burns awesome though and mixed with nice sappy pine it's perfect 20231008_151914.jpg
3 cords of gum 6 cords of pine should see us through next winter. And the trees are indeed gum trees :) some are 24inch or more so a good bit of wood. About 60 of them

Mmmmm bluegum 20231008_150424.jpg

question on the PM1000. the IPL and service Manual show a 2-part ignition. same with the P100 IPL and service manual. mine doesn't have that. I see no mention of this 1-piece ignition. what's up with that? thanks.

I don't know about Partner saws, but early McCulloch saws with two piece ignitions (SP81E & PM850) were almost all retrofit with the updated one piece ignitions.

I wouldn't think the corrosion would have any affect whatsoever.

The second piece of the ignition is usually being offered on eBay if you find out yours is missing something.

thanks Mark. I don't think it's missing anything as the unit in it looks nothing like half of the 2-piece unit. hopefully it's been retrofit. I have it pretty much back together after cleaning but need to find a Champion CJ6Y or Bosch WS 5F plug. neither of which is in stock anywhere in town of course. the plug it came with is a no name and looks pretty bad. I'm going to see if it will fire before I go any further. I'm sure it needs a carb kit but if it's good it should fire with some priming.

I think until you start getting into Strato port saws anything over 80ccs loves fuel mix!
The big homelites and Poulans included, even my 288 drinks like an Irish man.
If I remember correctly,my 288XPW with 28" bar/new out the box milling chain went through roughly 4.5 gallons of 40-1 mix this May-June when milling 2 Black Walnut logs in neighbor's backyard - One log 14" at small end,20" at large end,73" length other log was 20" at small end,25" at butt end,63" length The slabs were milled 1 7/8" & 2 1/4" thick.Ended up with 7 slabs in each thickness, never thought to total up the board feet I ended up with, but guessing it was close to 300,if not more.So not bad for a free yard tree, only 2 of the 14 slabs had a couple tiny knots,it was nice, clear straight grained wood with a little ripple or curl at a couple places.Plus ended up with at least 8 larger short logs from just above the main trunk - 14" to 18" diameter 30-36" long that will be ripped into short slabs & blocks before long, and a large pickup load of firewood from all the tops & smaller branches from 2 1/2" diameter to 12" or so,split & stacked.

Now back to our regular McCulloch programming schedule.....My main firewood saw for anything from 3" to 20" diameter since Sept. 2021 has been the PM700,with 20" bar & chain.Since I started using that saw exclusively my PM60 and a few others have sat on the shelf or bench.

then lightly buffed it with the soft wheel on my machine. ready for high temp paint.

That looks amazing from what you started with. The bar looks good too. Does anyone offer a mcculloch stencil for bar

Black walnut is a funny lumber tree.If cut when it's alive, the only portion of the tree that has a dark color or stain in it is the center,or heart.I have a neighbor who harvested the black walnut on the lawn of his apartment complex & sold the wood to the Amish. The Amish in turn had the logs shipped off to China where they were steamed so the coloring would go through the entire log, then it was veneered for furniture. If a log lays out in the open for a couple yrs.the process will happen naturally.BTW,I ended up getting all the tops from those black walnut trees. That was almost 10 yrs.ago.
