now that the snow is gone, i've noticed some damage to the bases of 2 trail crabapple trees and a wild plum i transplanted; the mice have eaten the bark off the trunk. is there a solution here or will i lose both trees?

My first suggestion is to buy an outdoor cat!! HAHA. Well, unfortunately if the chewing goes all the way around the trunk the tree will probably girdle. Which means the decline and eventually death of the tree. If it doesnt go all the way around there is a chance the tree will "heal". Hope everything is ok.
