I am trying to find a rim sprocket for an ms280 so I can convert to 3/8. Local Stihl dealer says the book doesn't list anything but .325. Does anyone know if there is a rim sprocket/Drum available that will fit the MS280. Part number would be helpful. I remember an old 028 that I had that had a rim sprocket with 3/8. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I dont know about a part number, but the 280, and 028 are two completely different creatures. the old 028 was and still is a great design, built with the vertically split crankcase, and its track record is quite good. the 280, I dont know much about because there isnt much mention of it, but its not the same saw as the old 028.

It's the same as used on an 026 - 1121 007 1041

..and it is in the "book".

Are you sure you need the entire sprocket/clutch drum, or just the rim? The rim alone is 0000 642 1231

As it urns out, just my luck, That one doesn't fit. I need one a little smaller. The shaft ID is about 1/8" to big for the shaft on my ms280. It has a smaller drum also. The clutch drum measures 2 7/8" and the shaft diameter is
1/2". Are there perhaps more than one size that came out on this model or something?

Nope... only one size...

The shaft is the same on the 26, 270, 280, 34, 36 etc... They all use the same drum bearing, so....??? 10x13x10mm...

What is the part number written on the side of your existing drum, and what is on the side of the new drum (different to the kit number).

Did you get the -1041 kit, or did you just get an 026 drum?

I don't have the saw in front of me to get part#'s but I wrote down the serial # 260629417. Don't know if that helps any. I will get the part #'s off of it tomorrow.

Make sure the kit says 1121 - xxx - 1041; not 1125-xxx-1041....

I assume you got tois from your local Stihl dealer. Look over his shoulder at the parts book, preferably Mediacat. All the rim/drum and kit options are listed and shown.

I am also trying to find the correct Oregon power mate drum and rim set for my 280c, and found some information on baileys that indicates the 026 has 2 different shaft diameters for different serial numbers. the info can be found here:

http://store.baileys-online.com/cgi-bin/baileys/1519?mv_session_id=rWn6jZmt&product_sku=RD 100791

http://store.baileys-online.com/cgi-bin/baileys/5051?mv_session_id=rWn6jZmt&product_sku=RD 32457

But then they list this kit as the one to fit 028 AND 280's

http://store.baileys-online.com/cgi-bin/baileys/796?mv_session_id=rWn6jZmt&product_sku=RD 29917

Does anyone know which one of these kits will fit a ms280c?

Thanks for any info
