Are most of you guys brazing or tig welding or soldering on these muffler mods? Any pics of what you use? Thats just as important, is the tools you use. Im always looking for ideas.

We use bolt on deflectors on some saws. That way they can be screened. I'll try to add some pics of different ways, tools, and inserts we use.

was missing the front off my 084. so cut a bit of plate and mounted a 090 muffler outlet to it.. and opened up the stock outlet. she's loud!!!

I hear you there! I use .062 wire 45% and Harris sta-silv flux. I don't bother with flux covered rod myself. Clean, clean, clean, is the secret, and when I do a customers muffler, I treat it as a piece of art, and that right there makes me focus on fit and finish the most.

Did I mention clean metal = a quality,
good looking joint? I can't emphasize that enough!!!
Yep welding soldering and brazing is only as good as the prep work

This is probably the easiest most efficient muffler mod. And as you said much easier to use a screen. Do you make your own deflector?

I was a weldor for many years, built airplanes, worked in the shipyard, built those shiney stainless tankers you see on the hyway, but I don't waste all that time on mufflers, die grinder, cutoff wheel, 10 minutes = fish gills works fer me.

Thanks Duane.

Now we have some smaller screws that look a little better.......but that is what Jon does on most Stihls with the stainless can mufflers. The screws thread into rivet nut inserts.
My old (rip) Coon Huntin' buddy used to say "looks will buy you nuthin'. This usually when I marveled at his redbone's fantastic head. He was more fond of his English silent trailer that plastered the shed wall with hides.

I am usually working on bashed up old stuff, so I don't get too fancy with it, though I don't like a bojanged look.

I found a critical part of the look of the finish is square cuts, deburred edges, and chamfered holes in thicker material.

So I got around to doing a shotgun styled MM on one of my new to me Mac's...ya ya....ha ha...it need a turn out made cause it was missing so I added a bit of extra to it.

Just did a simple dual 5/8ths pipe, angled backwards slightly, there is screen between the turn out and the muffler. I had to remove one of the cross bars on the outer cover to clear the pipes and they just stick out slightly so snagging shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Nothing too pretty cause it's a backup beater, maybe a quading' saw.
