My freebie Stihl 017

So I got a Stihl 017 in a box in a trade deal. It needed some new parts and a fair bit of cleanup and reassembly. So far I am really close to getting a chance to fire it up but I ran into a problem.

The choke shaft hits the throttle linkage when I try to operate the choke fully. I don’t know why. Everything is in place and they are both OE parts. I have tried to do some searching about it but it seems nobody else is having this issue

I have attached a couple pictures so you can see what the issue is. There is a tab of sorts on the choke shaft that makes contact with the link. Short of cutting the tab off (what is its purpose anyhow?) what did I do wrong

That's the way it supposed to be, setting the choke also opens the throttle.

Ok I wasn’t sure if that was the way it was supposed to be. Doesn’t seem right to me that the Throttle is opened with full choke. Can I cut the tab off without causing issues?

You'd need to manually pull the throttle to get it to start if you did that. Like starting an old mac.

You need to pull the trigger WOT hold it then at the same time set the choke (all the way down) with your thumb now let go of trigger the choke is set.

The throttle plate needs to be open when choking to start.

Alright. Thanks everyone for your info. I’m glad I posted before cutting off the tab haha
