A few pics to dispell the myths that "husky's are so much slimmer and smaller than Stihl. Pics are not doctored at all. I had the family out for portrait time and got to noticing that sitting side by side, there is not a big difference between any of the comparable models. Enjoy and grumble away.

Just for kicks, The last few pics are of a 660 beside an 880. if you have never been around an 880, it dwarfs a 660 by a good margin.

In case you can't tell, saw are as follows from top to bottom.
390XP/MS660Mag - 32"
372XP oe/MS460Mag - 24"
346XPne/MS260Pro - 18"
338XPT/MS200T - 14"

FWIW, Looking at them in the pics and in person, Across the board the huskys actually seem bigger overall.

it doesnt matter which one is fatter ...the husky guys will just say you photoshopd the picture ....de nile isn,t just a river ....

You are so lucky! All your chainsaws are Orange! I love chainsaws, especially Orange chainsaws. Non- Orange chainsaws suck, because they are fat, heavy, weak, clumsey, off balance pieces of crap.

......

You have made a careful selection of model there - with an agenda in mind! :D:laugh:

Well......size, weight, and dimensions are one thing, but at the end of the day, which one cuts cookies the fastest?

From what I have seen on this forum, that's the real measure of a saw.
It does seem the majority decision on the criteria of a saw is speed on AS. I've talked to a lot of Loggers over the past 20 years and they never mention speed.....only durability. And when I ask about power and speed they all say they're all strong...but this or that brand lasts the longest.

Try the MS441, MS362 and MS261 in a similar comparison....

...and I have never said that all Stihl saws are bulky. ;)
As said above, a 441 is actually narrower than a 365 (which is the same width as a 372)

I don't have the other two comparable Husky saws to compare.

Two things-

don't mistake the width of the plastics with the center of mass (not making any claims in the matter).
I don't think anyone has ever said the 026 wasn't slimmer than a 346. The 261, yes.

I don't really care which ones are bigger but that is one heck of a saw collection! Do you use them or just look at them? They all look like they just came out of the box.
The 4 huskies in the pic are practically new, the 346 being the one with the most time on it. I have only acquired them recently. Those four Stihls have cut a pile of wood. I bought the stihls all new between 08 and 2010, the 660 being the newest. I'm just ocd/anal about keeping them clean. Keeping a saw clean is one of the best things you can do for it. If it is clean, it will run cooler and more consistently. less hot spots due to crud buildup. Also less wear on rubber parts if they are not saturated in oilly sawdust all the time and coils last longer if they can stay cool.

I think the high top air filters on the husky's add alot of "bulk". Doesn't really, but I think it makes them feel bigger than they are. Pick up a 390\2188 or a 372\2171. Really there's no difference, but they do "seem" bigger.

It's all about perception...

Good thing he didn't have a 395xp to sit next to the 660, eh? :D
I do like my orange cinderblock though :chainsaw:

The 372, 390 etc are quite wide for Husky saws, as they have inboard clutches.

What really matters regarding width, is how far from the centre of gravity the bar is, not the measurement between the widest points. ;)

I don't follow, they are all comparable models from the same era...

Saw Troll I agree the 372xp should be compared to the MS441 but what exactly do you compare the MS362 to in that lineup? I don't see a 357xp or a 562xp in there. The 346xp could be compared to the MS260 or MS261 since they were produced during that same time period. I'm not hopping aboard the Stihl train, I wouldn't trade my 346xp for 2 260's or 261's I'm just stating facts. The bottom line it that both companies make great saws and I think the AS community puts too much faith in cookie cutting where one saw puts .5 seconds on the other saw.

The 441 has some sloppy AV unless you get the stiffer ones or the full wrap. That adds to the feeling of pigginess. But where it really falls down, where people really get the pig factor from is this:
