I walked out back to dump a 5 gallon bucket O' water on a small douglas fir in my backyard earlier. I wasn't suprised at what I saw, because I always expect people to be oblivious and inconsiderate. But the lady that lives behind me had her sprinkler set on turbo, and it was saturating a portion of my wood pile. I just chuckled to myself. I'll ignore it unless the cunny's pulling this crap in late fall. My policy with neighbors is to never talk to them or adknowledge them, hoping they'll figure out I'm just "doing unto others" if you will. Anybody else have this happen? I would be completely embarrassed to water someone's woodpile. Also, I refuse to let her stupidity make me break my policy of never talking to neighbors. Wouldn't it be cute to send a card through the mail thanking her for watering my woodpile? That would be fun.

I suppose if you are "into" being "cute"...maybe.

Myself, I kind of enjoy talking to my neighbors. It makes the times that we drink beer together or go shootin' a little bit nicer and less awkward.

I Just can't grasp the concept of chatting away for hours in the innernets with guys ya don't know, but refuse to acknowledge your own immediate community.

I dunno, maybe its just one of those F'ed up west coast thangs...

Its either spite or stupidity I don't know all the particulars you could say something and find out what her reaction is.

It couldn't possibly be spite. As I said, I've never said a word to her. And not that it would be her buisness anyway, but my yard is clean and house was renovated in 08. I think she's just oblivious. It just struck me as absurd and rediculous more than anything else.

10 years ago when I moved in here I talked to the neighbors. What changed my mind about that was one day the lady that lived next door at the time said that "she'd been talking to one of the other neighbors about having one of my trees cut down." A tree that is completely on my property, wasn't near her property, and there isn't one of those fruity "community associations" here. So I told her nicely about what private property is and how absurd her idea of chopping my tree down was. It always starts with a request of some type. So I learned my lesson. It's a simple policy. I leave you alone, you return that favor. I respect your private property you respect mine. I know, I'm weird.

Nope, never happened to me, but the neighbors would have to have a water cannon that shoots a couple hundred yards to reach me.

Most neighbors I've had would be mortified to realize that they inadvertently did something to annoy me. A friendly conversation when I see them in the backyard would be my plan of attack for this situation.

Sounds like live and let live that is better than a jerk who has a problem with everything someone does.

I am blessed with good neighbors,I really do go out of my way to be of help to them, when they ask. I share eggs and my garden bounty, and at times plow their snow and till their garden.(in the years they grow one) I have found, they are better then a watch dog. We have a verbal agreement to look after each others property when strange people show up. Kind of like a block watch in the country. Good neighbors are hard to come by,I want to keep mine as long as possible.

Oh, I'm not heartless about it. If I should see someone's house on fire or getting broken into I'll sacrifice my anytime minutes on a brief call to the proper authorities.

We had a neighbor in Alabama that did the same thing, turned his sprinkler on all the way and hosed down the yards on either side of him.Got to the point that I started stacking my woodpile on the other side of the yard away from him.Although I explained till I was blue in the face that I didnt want my yard soaked down,it did little good.
The kicker came when my wife came home with her new Mitz.Eclipse convertible.Naturally she had the top down and left it down because she was planning on leaving within a half hour. But that half hour was just enough time for the neighbor to come out in the front yard and set up his sprinkler.
Yeah, you got it.He hosed down not only his yard but the wifes new ride to boot.Didnt kill anything in the car, but I ceased my "nice guy" look and attitude when I went calling that afternoon.

I figured at that point if I cant stack my wood where I want and park what I want in my own driveway then there is no sense in trying to remain civil to a neighbor.

I have the same situation going right now. My piles (neatly stacked) are out sunning right now, and the neighbors sprinkler system hits 2 of the 3 stacks.

I am not to worried about it now, and will talk to him when I see him. I don't think it will be a problem and he will probably adjust his heads right after I say something.

It helps that I let him "take what he needs" for those cool summer firepit evenings. I am lucky, I have good, laid back neighbors, we all try to help eachother out, keep an eye out, etc. KD
