New saw..maybe...

Since we are heating with wood exclusively..I'm always on the lookout for
free wood...was given two well seasoned pecans the other day...fell over in
a hurricane a couple years back..wifey asked if i was going to get them..but there is no way that the 290 is gonna handle the trunks...looks like I may have a 660 in the bag if we can scare up the money...

She finally got to see some milling the other day...guy gave me a
pine trunk that's a good 36" at the base, and I cut 4" slabs out of the little end...milled them with the 290...and it is definetly not enough saw, wifey was has visions of 20-30" solid pine slabs, I'm thinking.. She was liking the knotty
pine with nice grain...<G>

I'm betting we wind up with hardwood countertops in the kitchen....

There ya go... get the wife involved in some way, if only the beneficiary of what you're toys can do, and you got it made. Over the years I've managed to cobble together not only a bunch of chainsaws and mills, but a full blown cabinet grade woodshop with no hassles from the better half when I bought/upgraded tools and equipment mainly because she has learned what those saws and woodshop can do for her (us). As for scaring up the $$$, use the money you save by cutting your own firewood or building your own furniture or making your own lumber for projects to buy the saws, mills and tools. That way they eventually pay for themselves.

oughta not be too long...she wants those two big pecans in the woodpile,
and doesn't want to listen to me cuss if the beetle get into the four or five tons

Once you get the saw you play the high quality PPE card?

I did really really well with that card
- Pletor H10A muffs
- Full face shield
- Battery powered respirator/hardhat/faceshield/muff combo
- Regular and Antivibe gloves
- Full wrap CS chaps
- Steel capped boots
Come to think of it I ended up spending more on PPE than I did on my saw!!

Maybe it says something about what wifey thinks of ya :angry2: or the degree of paranoia involved.
