Don't know if this is the right place or not, but I wanted to chat with other Stihl owners about maintance and usage or, whatever?
I'm not an Arborist, except I LOVE to cut trees with my saws...:chainsaw:
So I guess I am an Arborist!?
Let me know if I'm in the right/wrong spot.

Welcome to AS! You will find a wealth of information at your finger tips as well as members that love running chainsaws too. :greenchainsaw:

Thanks for the reply. I guess I need to edit my profile at home, I am a custodian, I'm at work right now and do not have access to my web site to edit images. I think some pics are blocked here too? I am down to only two saws now, an 039 and a 064AV. :givebeer:

Welcome!

This is a great place to ask and learn about chainsaw maintenance! In fact I may have something you may be interested in.

Really!?
A manual?
I just fumbled my way through fixing a friends 031, still don't know how it got fixed, I never saw a spark jump, but the next day it ran again!? Go figure.

P.S. I do have an Owners Manual for the 038 if anyone needs it, I can scan it and make it avaiable(sp).

nope, not an arborist. just a homeowner that likes cutting wood.

welcome to the site.

OK, sounds good to me. Yes I do love to cut wood, I'll go out and do it just for fun! I'll have to see if I have a picture of the rounds being stored at my friends house, I don't have enough room on my property. I'm very fortunate to live 6miles from the Mt. Hood National Forest, so I can run up anytime I want too. Grab the saws and a couple of guns and out the door!

I would say this is the right place, or the chainsaw site.

Thank you
Yes, I are a redneck
Yes, I drink beer and eat what I kill, thank you for letting me join the club!
Now that I'm home, I got the Avatar and Sig changed and I can post pics of stuff at a later date. I found these two pictures on the lap top. This is just the begenning of the rounds I have. I think there's about five cord at my neighbors, but I don't have the wood shed built yet and I do not have a log splitter.
Geoff - I think you have found a new home, kind of a second home, think of it as a getaway or vacation home. The search feature is awesome, I use it weekly to find some old discussion threads that are of interest. Although there are lots of Arborist members, many of us are alot like you, have saws, cut wood, interested in learning more, like to share pics and stories.

Welcome and let me warn you this site is addictive, but in a good way :)

Believe me I know, I am a member to many motorcycle sites that are the same format and I love to read the peoples experiance, maybe I can learn something from it. And here? I love to cut wood, I think if I won the lottery, I would have to go out and cut wood for many people around here that are to seasond(old) to do so them selves, just because I feel that NO-ONE should retire, but keep busy. When you "retire", stop being productive, you DIE! So many trees, so little time!

Saw History

OK, I went digging through my photos and got all but two saws located. One I just traded to my friend, so I will see it again and get some pics of it. But for now, here is my saw history, it all started back in October of 2007...
I never owned a saw before that, my friend had three and I went cutting with him, plus he said not to worry about wood, he has enough to supply me, because I helped anyway. Well, last October, I still had NO wood and were steaming for winter her @ 1970Ft. above sea level! I figured I needed to get some saws and go get my own wood. The saw I remember was my dad's McCulloch, a BIG McCulloch saw. I never got to run it, but I remember that big yellow saw. So, I thought I would go get some of those, but I found I wasn't happy with them and everyone around here(except one guy) owns Stihl's, the other guy has a Husky. I then got a cutting partner, he has two 044's, him and his dad were loggers out here before the spotted owl. When he got his bar stuck in a freshly downed pine tree, he unbolted his bar and put my 20" off my MS-290 and cut his bar out, it was then I decided I'm sticking with Stihl and I'm going bigger!
So, heres the class photos, with two missing...
Here's where the MS-290 should go, soon...

Here's where my Stihl 024 should go too, but I can't find the pics. I was using it as a limbing saw only. Worked great!
Lets see your saws!:greenchainsaw:

Hey Nut,

What kind of bike ya got?

'97 Fatboy here

Until they sell, we have a 75' Honda XL-250 for the wife
I have an 87' KLR 650 and...
I am working on a friends 00' Kawasaki Voyager B-14.
He got it in 01', the owner stuffed the nose into something and broke the front wheel, bent the forks, frame and smashed the radiator. He didn't do the port side fairings any favors either. I hope to swap the parts over this winter. We picked up an 86' Voyager for the forks, front wheel, as it turns out we need the frame too. There's alot of work to be done, but I would love to ride it to work the summer? BTW, the bike has 2453 original miles on it!
Looks like quite a project ya got there nut, plenty to work with though. My wife has '00 Suzuki Savage 650, single cylinder its a nice little bike for her, she really likes it, light weight and close to the ground, its been a great beginners bike for her. My son has a Suzuki Marauder 800, that thing is obnoxiously loud, my middle son is riding my old '96 Suzuki Intruder it has about 40k on it, but it runs great and still looks good. We're working on an old Honda Shadow 500 for my youngest, he's 14 now but itching to go with us on his own bike, instead of on the back of mine. The bike is complete, we've replaced a bunch of stuff and got it road worthy, but it needs paint and should have new back tire. I put a couple hundred miles on it last summer, doing test drives here and there. It only has 900 miles on it, sat in someone's barn forever, mice ate the seat up and the starter was set up, but we got her going.

Ride safe Nut,
