30 plus yrs. as a climber. advice: Don't look down unless securely tied in---preferably with two lines (up-line and a short lanyard)---don't try and be a 'cowboy', always swinging out on the dead limbs or spars trusting to luck (luck always runs out). Imagine the worse case scenario before initiating any action such as felling, blocking down, 'jumping' a dead limb etc.... and do everything in your power to negate the possibility. Look for reasons to use the small but ordinary 'up-tools' available to (gear-head) climbers accustomed to dealing with high hazard trees. Gear such as carrabiners, slings, rope retrieval devices such as the Sidekick, micro pulleys, ascenders and gri-gri's as well as super-grip climbing gloves such as Atlas fit (as well as others).
The use and mastery of these small, inexpensive and incredibly useful devices can over time transform you into a master climber while simueltaniously increasing your efficentcy safety and productivity.
