I opened up the muffler on one of my S25DA's and boy it is loud. However its much stronger than my stock one. Joe, I'm always impressed with these saws and how they cut.

Agreed. This was one saw that was just done right. Which could also be said of most of the Poulan line from this generation. XXV, 306-245, 3400-4000 what more could you ask for from a saw?

Just trying to be helpfull. :givebeer:

Thoughts are welcome. I do have a Mac 14e that never leaves home, not enough cord as suggested.
I've wondered about the timing on the 3500 because it has done it since day one. No adjustment for timing and crank key seems to be intact. So that only leaves a manufacturing defect of cutting the key wrong or placing the magnets in the wrong place. And it now seems a better idea yet to use high test.
I've noticed that Husqvarna has decompression on newer saws of same build. Certainly had to wonder if the kickback was the reason.
I've elected to just replace the ring and give it a try. Close inspection has revealed that most of the scoring is below the exhaust port and it really is not that bad on the piston. Maybe it will enable better lubrication to the hot spot.:greenchainsaw:

Beast

If anyone is interested in a real beast of a saw I could ask what became of it. I remember it from when I was young and my Dad had an elm that three men could not reach around. It seems that it had a bar about 5' long with a nose handle. It definitely was not a 1 man saw and as I recall three men walked it to the tree from the truck. Handles at the motor like short wheel barrow handles for transport, one on each and one guy on the nose handle.
I could not tell you who made it but I think it was that industrial yellow that was used for some equipment years ago, like on tractors and caterpillars.

Canadian Poulan 3000

Got saw back together and running. Typical 3000, it runs real well. Comp 150 and nice blue spark. Haven't opened up muffler yet but plan too. I did repaint the clutch/chainbrake cover as it was almost bare. Used Allis Chalmers Orange from TSC. Not a bad pickup for $9.99(only bidder).

Sorry about pics. PC still won't open them up even after re-reading instructions several times

But it will be, and this saw has a lot of life left! How do you like the the ign switch? yeah Ill be fixing that. I always see plenty of the 2.1 saws with points. So when I spotted this 2.3 solid state I grabbed it. I bought it for parts ($10) but I checked it tonight and it threw a nice blue spark and comp feels real strong and the P/C look new. Dumped some mix in and popped right off. I also found out how loud these are minus the muffler. This will be a fun one for sure. Im just glad to get back to a Poulan after the last 2 jred fiascos I had on the bench! Makes you appreciate the Poulans even more.

Nice saw. Brings back some memories. That's the very first saw that I ever ran when I was a kid, was my dads, he gave it to me later on, and I still have it! I never use it anymore though, but they are great little runners and very light too.

Thanks!

Nice lookin saw Bob:clap: I don't recall seeing one in that color. Maybe that was a Canadian model, seems they were orange & black. At least the 3400-4000 models were I think.

Gregg,

Thanks! The first saw I used was my dads S25 too.
Nice job on that 3000 Bob, orange and black looks nice. That bar looks good too.

Seeing Joe's newest saw, made me think I should post this also:). Its a S25CVA I got recently. I wanted a CVA version to round out my collection of S25DA's. All S25's, just different years.

Sorry I missed that one! Glad you didnt though. Looks great!

Some of those Canadian models are on my wish list.

Found an older style 20" Sugi-Hara bar to fit my 4000 style Poulans also. Have one just like it on one of my S25's in 14". Only drawback that I see, is they are hard-nose bars and not sprocket tip. But, I just like the looks of them,:dizzy: and their well made also.

Nice!

Two good runners there.

Tell me that the 5200's and such aint some of the best sounding saws around.......

I got a 191T laying in the shop right now waiting coming on two weeks for a sprocket, and you couldnt give me six of those things for 1 good S25.

Ya, that little one was cutting through knots every cut too.

That 5200 sounds great!
