O.k. fossil, the pocket depths: clutch side measures 0.170.5, flywheel side measures 0.190-5. Both measured from the flanges to the bottom of the pocket. Oil clutch side is flush, flywheel side has the raised boss.

Thanks Steve.

I need to know how deep I can go with a seal, flush to the case pocket before I hit something like the bearing cage is what I'm looking for. The OEM seal width is .177"

Will a .25" width seal go in without bottoming out on something?

Thanks

On flywheel side, 0.253 from top of boss the inner race. Seal I pulled out was 0.253 with the seal recess at 0.045. Seal lip was very close to the inner race, housing had plenty of clearance. SKF 6904 is a no go, too tight on crankshaft.

Couldnt wait to break them in so went ahead and see what they were right now in 11" dry ash.

Poulan 3450 54cc broke in.

Poulan 3450 type 3 3750 60cc 2nd cuts only, not broke in after rebuild.

Poulan 380 60cc half tank through it after rebuild. Not broke in.

Stihl 034 036 62cc broke in.

Just always wondered how they compared. The 036 felt stronger in the cuts.
Same way I felt about the 3750 compared to the 262. 262 felt stronger. But the open port 60cc saws are right there in the cuts too.
The 034 036 feels so much like the poulans to me. Handling etc. Didnt care for the 262 in that department.

036 muffler modded and cant remember about the base gasket in or out.

380 muffler modded, no base gasket and some port work.

3450 3750 60cc muffler mod and base gasket in.

3450 54cc all stock muffler untouched. HDA 137 carb

Same stihl rs chain on all 4 - 3/8 7

I have another seal in mind. If a 6mm width will go in without interfering it should be perfect.

Not likely I will be trying any soon as I just put seals in the 8500 and 5200. I might try them in the 4200 when I get some time. Too many saws to fix. I wish I could find an alternate to a couple of Homelite seals but no luck so far.

Thanks for taking the time to measure that up for me.
