Seeing as Nevada is desert, I'm assuming the soil is sandy and dry. I have found that the nutrients tend to leach out of the ground fairly quickly in my sandy yard. I keep my fruit (citrus) trees producing by using a high quality shrub and tree fertilizer 2-3X per year. Get one that has all the micronutrients, I use Lesco 10-10-10 w/ micro's. It's available at Home Depot.
Water at least 2X per week if you don't get substantial rain, 1/2"-3/4" of water covering the entire root area of the tree (approx. the dripline) at each watering.
JPS is probably right about your cherry being too young ( ) but you can probably start seeing fruit by next year.
