I have thousands of bars chains and parts piled up and everyone (family) is after me to dump it all at auction. I am not inclined to do that Every winter I try to get rid of stuff but generally I end up with more. I am going to try to list some parts , chains, and bars here and see how it goes. This is a NEW NOS crank or the 090. I have had several ask me for one then never follow through thus it has sat on the shelf collecting dust. As for price I am not sure what would be fair. I am thinking $150.00Crank 1.JPG Crank 2.JPG Crank 3.JPG Crank 4.JPG Crank 5.JPG shipped

from what I can gather, there are two basic styles that are not interchangeable. the old style is shorter than the new style. the new style is longer. do you know is this is the old short or new long type?

Well knowing where it came from I am going to bet it would be older. It came to me with NOS Contra 137cc topends and various other NOS and used Stihl 090 parts to support his race saws in the 1970's

Good to know. One quick un-related question. are all Stihl 090 crankcases made from Magnesium and all clones made from die cast aluminum. Is this a true statement? thanks again for your imput-Joe

I do not know the answer to that question. I will say since Al is heavier if you had two side by side that would give you some type of a answer

I take it you do not want the crank

I need to think about and make some decisions about what I am going to do with this saw. I will get back to you if I am going to stay with the old crank case. if I go for the new crank case I will need the longer crank. I don't know at this point. I should have a firm gameplan in a few days. thanks so much for your imput-Joe

If you are going to buy a new crankcase then I assume you are talking about a Chinese one. At that point you should just use the Chinese crank

you got me all wrong Mike, but that's ok. Bill, I apologize if I wasted your time. I bought nothing Chinese, cases should not be aluminum.

The crank is here. If you want it then you say yes or no. As for whether the cases are Al or Mg a burn test will show alot. As I said earlier so will the weight. I thought you were in the metal business and were well versed in the differences. I am ignorant when it comes to some metallurgy but common sense does weigh in a bit
