I have a fungus attacking a red oak tree and need to know if I can do anything for this tree. I believe the problem started after a fire two years ago at the base of the tree. There also is a shagbark close to this area and it also is showing this fungus on the side the fire was on. The fungus is closely matted, short, and appears to start under the bark. This splits the bark and the bark is separated from the tree.. This process seems to be traveling up the tree.
