The 30" Oak was blown apart! Notice the top branches going in every direction. Pieces were tossed 30' from the trunk.
This happened a couple of summers ago. I found the tree with leaves still green and the bark was blown right off the tree. This site inspired me to take some pics and share with others.
Lightning is powerful

Yeah I guess, but I would not like to be anywhere near that when it was hit.
It wouldn't be great to have a lump of oak sticking out of your chest!
In fact I couldn't think of a worse place to be in an electrical storm then in a forest.
 
WOW!!!! That's one hellofa shot!
I've never seen one get blowed apart that bad before!

They say that lightening never hits the "same" place twice. They are correct. After lightening hits it the first time.... It is NOT the "same" place.
