Around here, if you get caught burning osage orange, you'd probably be lynched by one of the traditional bow makers or wood workers.... that is, after they made you divulge the location...

We had a discussion here a while back with a bow maker. The stuff he wants for bow wood is pretty hard to find in these parts. It still makes great firewood.

yeah, they are certainly picky about what they use. A buddy had several pieces stacked up in his barn waiting to decide if it would make good bows or not. if not, it was getting cut into planks for work benches.

You gotta rift-cut the logs for what they want. Not easy on a bandmill.

We've been trying to find decent trees for saw logs. Not much luck. They're wide, just not very long or very straight.
