Attached picture is a corner of our yard where I removed a chinese tallow tree a.k.a. popcorn tree. It was shading our live oak and needed to go.
We would like something that blooms, but it should NOT overgrow the live oak and it will need to tolerate partial shade. I am thinking about a dogwood, either a native species or a dwarf variety from a shop. The alternative is that we plant nothing here.
It will be partly shaded by the live oak, and also later on by a bald cypress that you can't really see in the picture. The placement will be on the near side of the fence, more or less smack in the middle of this picture.
We are in coastal SC Zone 8b. Thanks for your advice.
