Hi, Forum. I have a 50 year old sycamore that provides shade to my back yard. I'd like to put in some pavers nearby, and I came across a root while digging for the base. At about 15 feet from the tree, there is a 2.5 inch root buried a few inches into the soil. My instinct was to call in a pro, but I wanted to see if I'm making more of this than needed. Is this ok to cut? If so, would you dig closer to the trunk or cut it where it hits the paver base?
I don't know if this data point is interesting, but the root is a bit wider at 23 feet from the tree.
I really appreciate any guidance you can provide.
Steve
