I have an old 028 stihl with an 18 inch bar and i am needing to replace the bar and chain. is there any recommended bar or chain to use. the only thing this saw will be used for is cutting smaller sections of hard wood. i would like to run a somewhat aggressive chain. is that even possible on hardwood

buy a new Stihl Bar and Chain and or Oregon it should have been .325 pitch.
no milling for me just cutting fire wood for the most part. i have several friends with trees down on there property and ill be spending alot of time cuttin for them. this particular saw is pretty old but runs great. so old it dont even have a chain brake on it
Mine came with a 16", .325 chain - works just fine -
bought new bar and chain for the old 028 and performed a little surgery(muffler mod). put er to work today. that old saw is a torque monster!!! cant hardly bog it down. very impressed with this saw considering its so old all my saws are no less that three yrs old except that one and it will cut right there with them.
