So, bar is 40" total length... 1.5" longer than the 36" bars I've got here...

Bought a 3/8" .058 115 DL Oregon chain for it and....

A: chain wont go into the bar... there's a few spots where 1 or 2 DL can fit in but they wont move when in. Another known .050 bar I have behaved exactly the same if I try to fit the 0.058 into it.

.050 chain I have fits it like a glove... did Mac bars of this era come in .050 at all?

B: 115 drive links not close to enough... cant even get them around the bar without the saw sprocket... guessing somewhere in 120-125 range would be the correct number of drive links. Anyone know?

Been doing a bit more research and some measuring, I'm pretty sure I actually need a 119DL .050 3/8" chain.

Ordered a skiptooth 36 inch 119DL .050 3/8" chain from a seller that DOES take returns (these seem a lot more available than the .058 I bought first). From what I read, 123 is for 42" bars... so 119DL should be right where I want to be; and would match up with my measurements (Laid bar down and rested chain on it with drivers lined up where they WOULD be in the bar... then shifted it down the bar and over the sprocket and counted the number of DL that were there (from where the last placement ended on the bar to complete the loop around the sprocket) minus the DL that cut down the bar in the original placement...

Came out to 8-4 = 4... so Im hopeful this chain will be the appropriate length. And all indicators I've got from measuring (penny/dime test too) are that it's definitely .050.

Yeah I'm a bit worried 120 is needed, not 119... but that basically means I need to make it myself or get a shop to make it custom, right? I can't find 120DL chains anywhere. Hoping 119 works... if not I'll be figuring out and buying the tools I need to make my own chains I guess.

Where did you get this bar? If from Ebay and it is obviously not as advertised send it back for a refund at sellers expense!

Yes eBay...

Frankly, as long as I can find chains for it, I'm happy with the bar. The unfortunate thing is I wasted almost $30 on a chain based on the seller's description... a chain I'll probably never use (3/8" .058 115DL)

Can't really blame the seller for the mistake... I mean .058 is sharpied multiple times on the bar... guess whoever owned it before the seller was mistaken.

Honestly they probably do but I haven't had a chance to leave the house to get one.

So... chain arrived, and bar needs 120dl... but I can move the hole for the tension adjustment forward 3/8" and then 119dl will work.

But as an official metric... if anyone else gets this same bar... its 0.050 and takes 120DL in 3/8"

I guess based on what buttermilk said, this is a 38 inch.

So a .050 38-in that they labeled .058 36 in

Got the bar modded and chain fits. I didn't quite place the oiler port correctly though, so only a trickle of oil gets through. I'll probably pull it back off and open that up a bit before I do anything with the saw.

Beside the saw is the old 28" Bar... and background is my G070 with a 36" on it.

Crazy thing is after I ordered this I worried the seller measured the total length as 36" and it would actually be a 32" or so bar... Man worrying it would be smaller than I wanted was wrong.
