Old Timey 064?

I just got a surprisingly little-used 064 today, and I noticed it had a metal air filter cover, under which is a flocked metal screen air filter. This one is stihl useable, but I imagine it does not handle air as well as the later HD setup. I now have two IPLs printed 16 years apart, and it looks as though there were several variants of this machine, which, along with the 044 and 034 Super, are rapidly becoming my favorite saws to run.

Opinions, experiences?

Sounds about like mine.
It now has an oem 066 cylinder on it.

The early 064 is a great saw, but the air filter system really does benefit from updating. The low profile system works fine but restricts air flow.

Looks like it would be a fair number of parts to swap out. I hope the choke is part of the carb, otherwise it would be a pain to do it all.

The choke is part of the carb, and the switch shaft is the same so no worries there. The low-profile system works fine and people made a living with them for years, but they are a choke point. I'll look and see if I have any extra parts for a conversion.

Here are the two systems. The older variant is definitely less boxy, but the filter is like that on a 361.

The newer older one will definitely get the elasto-start upgrade. An 85 cc drop start is ok on an older saw, but when the compression chamber is tip-top, it can bite.
