We have a one year old walnut tree in our garden.

We have the intention to give it a new place in autumn.

Which care do we have to take and which consideration of site (sunny, shade, etc) is important?

Thank you for your attention and eventual help.

Transplanting your own tree is very rewarding. Wait until the tree is dormant after the leaves fall) befor you dig it up. You should dig a root ball based on 12 inches of root ball diameter per 1 inch of trunk diamter. And to a depth of about 18 inches.

The new site should be sunny, well drained and away from objects the dent easily. make sure there are no overhead lines as well.

I have taken walnut saplings out by (when dormant) washing the soil away with a hose, prunning the rootsoff a foot or so out, then planting in the desired spot so that the root flair is well exposed. Sort of mound the soil and push the roots down around the mound. Then free up the soil around the pit with a fork and cover. Water the soil well to settle and add if needed, don't cover the root flair. Most mare root planted trees need staking ofr the first year.
