orange tree bark

I have discovered large (4"x6") scabby areas on the bark of my orange tree. Can anyone help with a diagnosis and treatment??

Ihave a picture but I an so new at this that i do not know how to attach it. I find no help icon.

I clicked on "manage attachments" and get a big red "X" and nothing happens.
