Palo Verde

I wish to plant a Palo Verde (Blue or Foothill)approx 2-3' from my driveway.

What -length- and what -depth- of root barrier will I need to keep my driveway from being involuntarily modified?

Also, is there a preference (being in So Cal) of which Palo Verde I should plant?
