Performance/porting questions on new (first time) build

I recently put together a Chinese Husky 372. Parts are cheap and I figure if I screwed up I would not be out a lot. Well turns out it runs! Pretty good actually.
I did a very basic woods port on the jug (no timing changes) and deleted the base gasket. Ended up with about 0.028 squish.

My question is the piston skirt at TDC hangs down into the intake port. Now if I thinking right... If I were to remove the hang down this would do two things - advance intake timing and increase duration.

This would be a good thing right????

I've done a little cookie cutting with it so far, less than a tank full. This weekend I'm going to help a buddy buck some logs up.

Had a Sthil style 20" bar modded today to take an adaptor(Homelite410 one) and off the shelf 72 drive link chains. It is what it will be wearing this weekend.

I wish I had taken more pics. I did more work on the ports than the pictures show. Starts great and tunes easy. I'll know more after this weekend. I have my MS460 to compare it to.

That looks like you could run a 42" bar full chisel pretty smoothly as long as you got the right oil mix in it
I cant imagine the shelf I would have to build to put it on after polishing each day

You must measure the port timing at the bottom of the intake port. Put that where it needs to be and forget it.

I would shoot for 78-80°, no more than that on a 372.
