On Stihl saws, (or most common Stihl ones anyway), You look at them new on the shelf and they have either a .325" or a 3/8" chain. So, can the bigger saws with a 3/8" chain be converted to the .325" with the change of sprocket/clutch, bar and chain? An example; A Stihl 362 with a .325" 20" bar?

Also;

When my Stihl MS290 needs rebuilt, can I put the MS390 piston in it easily? Like a simple head replacement with the bigger bore piston or is their more to it than that?

Thanks in advance.

You can change between Clutch drum spur sprocket to Clutch drum rim sprocket in either .325 and .375; you do not need to change the clutch itself

You can get a aftermarket motor or a OEM 390 motor that will fit in the MS 290

People here on AS have made this change in a hour or two :msp_wink:
