Hi guys,

I am new to this site and thus , to the chainsaw world.
My neighbor recently gave me his old chainsaw. The saw refuses to start for now but have been working really well in the past.
That's why I would like to put it back on track again !
It's a Poulan 2150.

I have questions for you guys,

1) I found a small metal coil with a small plastic cap into the oil reservoir (See picture 3). My guess is that this should not be here at all haha

2) there is a small metal rod that connect somewhere into the carb but is free on the other end. I guess that it should be attached somewhere but I don't see where ... Have you guys have an idea where it should connect ? (see picture 4 and 5)

thx a lot !

Look over the IPL. http://ersatzteillisten.motoruf.de/... 952802092, 952802093, 2005-03, Chain Saw.pdf
I think that is the oil pickup. Should be attached to a hose that will squirt oil out near the bar studs. See 51 in IPL.
That is the throttle rod but it's just crammed in there - not even connected.
You need to pull air filter, remove 2x 8mm nuts, pull filter housing, then pull carb and start looking around. I'm sure the 3 fuel lines in fuel tank pickup (filter) are shot.

Thanks for the pdf, I can definetly see that it is the oil pickup.

1)I see that to put it back on the rubber elbow inside the oil tank, I have to pull out the clutch and oil pump as well.
Would it be ok to just run the chainsaw without it ? Is it really important ?

2) And yes, it was the throttle cable that was disconnected. Now it is fixed. (see picture 3)

3) Also, i found, just like dougand3 said, a piece of hose laying inside the gas tank. It looks like it was connected to the primer via coupling. Can someone confirm ?
If so, ill try to put another piece of hose so that the primer hose can reach the bottom of the fuel tank.

thank you guys !

You need to pull the grommet off the carb screws and look underneath. The fuel supply line (Near 1 big screw side) looks better than the 2 purge lines. It has been re-hosed at some point. I think the piece found in tank was from long time ago - not current hoses. The nipple in the tank is purge return. Fuel pickup looks awful - get a new one. I'd re-hose all 3 but I have hoses on rolls. You may get by with a new fuel pickup and carb clean/rebuild kit. These carbs - new AfterMarket - are ~$10.

I already have those Kind of hoses so i will just change them.

yhea, the gas pickup seems real bad. I’ll ordre a New one.

should i put back the oil pickup?

Try putting oil pickup back on tube with 2 sets of really long hemostats or narrow needle nose thru filler hole. If not, gotta pull clutch and work that side. And YES, you GOTTA oil bar.

ok so i changed the gas filter and All the fuel lines today.

I finaly manage to start the chain saw but it runs terrible. Had to hold gas otherwise it wont start and imediatly stall at low rpm. Cant idle at all...
All New fuel lines seem ok and spark plugs as been checked and are fine. I guess it Come from the Carburator.....

I notice that there is a hole in the center of the gas cap and gas is leaking from there. Anyone know what the purpose of that hole ?

That's the tank vent - duckbill valve failed. A new cap is ~$6. Or get a green duckbill and see if you can get it seated - I never had much luck.

ok thanks again dougand, you rock !

For the bad running without holding gas ,I'll look on the internet about the carb screws adjustement.
