My Poulan WildThing gives me a small spark on an old spark plug but when I put a new spark plug, there is not spark. Why?

I tried a Champion and a NGK and still no fire. Could it be the coil?

weak coil and old plug is gapped tighter?

is the kill switch on or wires shorting to ground ? ,pop the starter cover off and see if anything obvious like wire touching case

Bad ground? The coil bolts down on plastic.

There is a flat sheet brass thingy under one of the coil mouning bolts that reaches up and touchs the cylinder to complete the circuit.
