Very nice saws. Mark, thanks for the information.
Update on the PM850 build. Got everything back together. Saw started with just a few pulls. Seams to start easy and run strong. Not sure it will keep up with my PM800 but that maybe a challenge that could happen this weekend....lol (Ron)
It seams to start first pull...Well when you remember to turn the switch on. Put a new sawdust screen and spring shield on it. (did I ever mention I hate recoil springs!!!) I tried to upload a video of it running but it tells me that the file is too large. Oh well. I have got to heat cycle it a few more times and then check the compression before I will call it done. I'll be in NC this Saturday. But once you believe that it is ready to rip, we'll meet at the wood lot and put it up against your 800, an almost new DE80 and my go-to 800 (assuming the oiler is working). Some 33" bar logs and some 24" bar logs - to compare torque and speed. I'm conflicted as part of me is rooting for the 850 and part of me is rooting for the others. Ron

Looking forward to it. Had the PM800 out today at Valiant Circle cleaning up after your city guys. Smaller stuff, not a workout for the PM800 but the noise wheel locked up on my Husky 350 while I was there and the only other saw I had with me was the Mac. I had it just in case there was some bigger stuff. Should have had one of the 10-10s with me but I did not know what I really had to cut. Only have 16" bars on the 10-10s and the PM55.

It sure does lol I'm debating whether I should tear mine down and repaint it or just keep it the way it is
Roll Tide If you are going to us it I would not worry about paint as long as it runs good. You should come up and join us. Maybe we might need a referee. Ron might cheat....lol Might find him out there running a rock over my chain or worse yet try to help me by sharpening my chain....lol

As noted, the PM850 is electronic ignition and the SP80 and early SP81 saws are points. The later SP81E came originally with a two piece electronic ignition but the later one piece will also work and is more reliable.

Many will tell you that the PM850 is the best of the 82 cc McCulloch saws, but I have an SP81 with a fresh piston and cylinder that would hang with most.

JoeyMT33 as a PM850 that will break starter covers if you do not use the compression release.

The PM800, 805, and Super 850 as well as the DE80 and PM8200 all have the oversize mufflers with the large screens. Very quiet saws by comparison but seem to be lacking some of the attitude of the SP80/81/81E and PM850 versions. That may simply be an impression left by the lack of decibels.

The SP80 came with a three shoe clutch but the two shoe version from any 10 or 600 Series saw will work just as well.

Mark

Joey also has that SP80 that he built that blew 203 psi!!
