We have 8 beautiful Italian Cypress trees that are in a straight line six feet apart from each other and each one is about 50' tall. These trees are probably about 60 years old and appear to be in good health. We are considering building a garage alongside these trees, and we are concerned about digging the 18" deep trench needed for the foundation that would be about 4 feet from the trees.
How critical are the roots that far away from the base of the tree?
Are we putting the trees at risk by building that close to the trees?
Are putting the trees at risk if we cut some of the roots while digging the 18" deep trench 4' away from the trees.
Thank you for your help.
