Hi everyone, now I've got my eye on a second hand Dolmar PS6800, it's apparently a 68cc saw, the power to weight issue is what I'm interested in, probably clutching at straws here, but anyone here had the opportunity to compare the 6800 to either the 440/044 or 036/360/361? I'm assuming the 6800 is closer to the 360 than the 440 for power output, looking thru the Dolmar site, no mention of 6800 specs, so obviously an older saw, and the latest 70cc Dolmars seem to be a hell of a lot heavier than the equivalent cc stihl models. Does the 6800 match a 360/036/361 for weight? If not, does it match a 044/440 for grunt? Cheers.

Thanks a lot for that ST, that definitely rules out the Dolmar for me then.. :bang:

The info I have state weight like the 660......

?????

The Dolmar PS6800 was the last of a tried and true design. 4.15 ci 68cc 3.6KW weight of 13 1/2 lbs PHO. Powerwise its between the PS6400 and the PS7300 approx the same weight. One of the EASIEST to start saws ever built with the injection carburation just open the start valve crank till running then close the valve.

The 6800 is a great saw....I have a buddy that had three 6800's in boxes in need of piston and cylinders and THX to Scott there cutting again..That injector is an interesting feature and really work's good..

Sorry!

The weight specs where I found it has to be with some bar and chain on the saw, but it didn't say so..........

6.6kg sound a lot better than 7.5, but still high for the power.....

If that 6800 pulls like my older 70E... it pulls like a saw with more cc's than it really has. The 70E I have wears a 28" bar and pulls it right smartly for a 69cc saw. Heavy mo-fo though!:biggrinbounce2:

The 6800 is just a re-named 120si. They aren't heavy. Power is a little less than the 044-440. I have compared all 3 side by side. Vibrates more than the stihl, but not bad. It's a great saw, I bet the price is a lot less than a stihl.

Thanks for those replies fellas, mostly very steep and rough country down here, thinning 10 - 15 year old pine forest, average tree size being around probably 2 feet diameter and anywhere from 30 foot to 80 foot tall, the 036 with 18" bar usually munches thru them no sweat, a 440 doesn't sound much heavier on paper, but you feel the difference alright after a few hours, plus you're lugging more weight in petrol, of course the 044 has the torque/grunt advantage on the bigger trees as you'd expect. The 6800 would obviously be a fine thinning saw, but sure sounds like a pretty heavy mother - relatively that is, so I'm reluctantly flagging the 6800 as the weight thing is main priority in this terrain. 6800 sounds a classy saw all the same.

I own a 120si-which apparently is the same thing as a 6800 and can say uneqivocally that it is the fastest cutting saw I have ever used and will absolutely run rings around any of the 11 044s I've run and beat my beloved Husky 268 and 371 as well. It also is faster than my Dolmar 7900 (though in fairness I must say I run a 28 inch bar on the 7900 and a 20 on the 120si)

I had a 120 super, the model before the 120si, and I'll concur that the saw was scary fast.
