How wide does the base of the trunk grow on a Raywood Ash (Fraxinus oxycarpa "Raywood"? What is the closest it can be planted next to a fence?

That's a variety, and I don't think its that old of a variety. At least in Oregon, the number of specimens to judge growth from are not exceedingly great.

But what we do have, indicates from medium speed, to between medium and fast growth for that tree.

There's no way its a slow grower.

Its not in the class with Sweet Gum.

But its at least as vigorous as Norway Maple, at least for the first decades.

That Ash is a nasty little vermin in our area for weak unions, splitting and leaning.

The texture and fall color are lovely, but 1 out of 2 of those lovely trees in this area has a defect.

Maybe see what the results are in other climates and other regions.

If I was to plant one near a fence (had to), I'd go no closer than 3', and that's if it did not irritate the neighbor since those trees are not narrow.
