I saw the post on replacing the cord, but my problem is a bit different. Everything seems intact. I pull on the cord, the spring tensions, then the engine breaks free and spins... so far so good. My problem is, the cord doesn't rewind. I can stick a screwdriver through one of the cooling vents and slowly wind it this way, put this isn't very practical... especially with a saw that's as hard to start as mine. I've taken the starter apart and seen how it works, but I don't see what is supposed to rewind the cord once the spring tension has been released. Clear as mud I know, but I'm hoping someone has seen this kind of problem and has a fix. Actually it looks like there should be two springs, one to turn the engine and the other to rewind the spool. If I can't fix it the way it is, perhaps I can figure out a way to add a 'rewind' sping. Sears want's $70 plus shipping for a replacement starter assembly... too expensive.
