When the drive tangs on the chain start hitting the clutch spline they're worn out, or when they fly apart, which ever comes first is when they're nearly finished .
Keep in mind that there are some aftermarket chicom rims that are not to spec and will not fit a chain properly! This is especially true with the spur gears causing chain friction and slight jumping.
Point being don’t cheap out on a chain and rim if you expect good cutting results. Go with oregon or any of the big brands in particular.
