My grandson has been doing the steering on my GT sitting on my knee, while I manage the pedals and provide plenty of weight to control the safety switches for a couple years now. Well, this week I made an assessment for 2023 and discovered he is growing like a bean stalk, so I shoved the seat forward as far as it would go. I hitched a small, but tall pole tree to the back and gave him the go to pull it to our stacks where we would use it as a rail for stacking firewood on.



You can't really see the smile on his face, or the pride he is showing. With his weight, he can't really push the forward pedal too far or he unloads his butt weight on the seat - probably a good thing, but he knows we work safely.

When things got too muddy for the truck, we switched to Plan B.


When things got too dangerous for the tiny crawler, we switched to Plan C.

Is that a deuce and a half? I wasn’t around 900 series deuce and a half’s. I did ride in and drive the late 60s deuce and a half’s, 818, 923, and 931. Tough trucks.

It is a M35A3. Last rendition/rebuild of the deuce and a half. CAT diesel, Allison automatic, super singles, CTIS, air assist steering, hydraulic winch and air ride driver’s seat.

Goes great when loaded. Not so good when empty on slick inclines.

Interesting, I saw them, but never knew the number. Curious that they stayed with M35, the 800 series all became 900 series when similar changes were made.

4710. Not really big enough for a steady diet of the size of the last load.

It is nothing to make a habit of, but 20 footers will ride, all-be-it a little squirrely with that much weight behind the fulcrum point of the bed. The neighbor farm called and said they had some good large oaks suitable to be milled, so I went and grabbed the long ones yesterday and then bucked and loaded the rest this morning. Roughly 16 logs ranging between 16 and 28 inches diameter. A mix of white, red, and pin oak. Should make some beautiful lumber.
