the saw starts but dies after triggering the throttle. the carb is set to factory specs(hi/lo one turn out) and the chain/clutch are not binding. really seems like the carbs not seeing fuel. the air cheaner and fuel filter are new. question is, does the fuel tank need any kind of venting(to replace the fuel that leaves the tank with air....like on a lawn mower)..... thanks.

The tank vent is the tall back thingy to the left of the air cleaner.

Fuel starvation : You could have an air leak (often the crankshaft seal, underneath the flywheel), a bad impulse line, a cracked boot, bad fuel line, a plugged inlet screen in the carb, etc etc....

Check the obvious like fuel lines, filters, carb inlet screen, then the boot and impulse line.. The rest is a bit more involved as you need to pressure / vac test the saw.
