Slab stacks

How many folks stack their slabs as they are cut? I have always done this but talk to a lot of people that say I am wasting my time. I have always heard this sheds water naturally as well as sun. Anyone else do this?

Not on purpose, and I was pretty quick to rip everything I milled, so it didn't stay stacked like that for long, but I can't see how it would hurt.

Seems like a good idea to me. Nice work. Do you use a straight edge or level to make sure you’re bottom blocks on the ground are level with each other?

How I do mine. I actually organized this pile today and took 4 slabs out including 2 madrone that twisted some that I’m going to cut in half so they don’t twist more. I’ve got a few more piles

I actually build small “decks” from treated 2x10s and then level that deck, but yes I do try and get them as level as possible.

I just lean mine up on end in the shed-----seams to work for me.

That is the way I do it also. It isn't the correct way but I would be out of room very quickly. Easier to pick out what I need when it comes time to do a wood project.

Must admit, I'm a little envious of your set up. I, unfortunately, don't have the room for a large saw mill.

I set up a base to stack on, two beams on bricks/blocks with 4 X 4 cross pieces, and cut up plenty of stickers.

Scrap roofing on top with some waste outer slabs to hold those down.

Thanks for the terminology and education! Always like learning something new.

The only reason I like stacking like this is to shed water naturally and to match grain easily from slab to slab. But, some have said I am hurting more than helping.
