small tree for flower bed

I have a coworker that is looking for a small tree (5 feet tall or so) to plant in her flower bed. She was thinking of getting a Leland Cypress and leaving it in a container and burying that in mulch. I told her that there was probably a better tree or bush for her needs. She doesn't want it to get too big and wants it to have a round shape. Thanks, Roger.

A leyland cypress will get big fast needs lots of room.I think they are over used in the landscape. Some good small conifers out there. maybe a small liveoak.

There are alot of Arborvitaes. A sunkist arborvitae is supposed to top out under ten feet and has yellow edged leaves.

Winter Gem Boxwood or some other kind of Boxwood would work even without the pot, they grow real slow,
