I agree what Brad does is his business. I was brought up not to ask certain questions. Like how much do you make. Or what is your religion, but do you pay taxes on a few side bucks has to be on the TOP of the list. If you don't like someones work do not use them. But to ask them what they are going to do with the money you just paid them is NONE of your business. When you give the neighbor kid 20 bucks to shovel snow. Should you ask how it will be spent? I think not!!!

Some here would send the neighbor kid a 1099 I guess :dizzy:

Since this is kinda' a free ad for brads services, I was just checkin' to see if Mr. Snelling is the kind of buisness man I would want to do buisness with.

I guess I can understand you questioning this (although I certainly wouldn't) but wouldn't PM's be more appropriate? Since Brad didn't initiate the thread, calling him out publicly doesn't seem right somehow. Then again, just my opinion.

What Brad does regarding tax or anybody what anybody does with tax is nobody else's business. Remember that Brad DOES have a full time job so is already paying tax and contributing. Most people in my experience that whine about any small amount of unpaid tax are the ones who don't work or contribute anything to society so bludge of the real worker's tax dollars anyway...

I pay massive amounts of tax and if anybody bitc*ed and moaned about me doing the odd tree felling job for cash then they can go jump.

i did work on a lady tractor i think the total was $150 she paid cash, next spring she calls me up and asks for my SSN and address so she can 1099 me,
i told her i have never worked for you and never will, she replayed that she is turning me in for tax evasion i told her how is that so? and i don't care and hung up. that was four years ago....

I'm not sure I'm right on this, but I'm under the impression that a private person can not legally demand your social security number.

Federal guidelines state that an independent contractor that earns less than 600$ with your company in a year, renders a 1099 unnecessary. You just write it off with a name like Juan Valdez....

There's a big difference between 20 bucks for the neighbor kid and someone who runs a steady psuedo business, advertises it, and brings in thousands a year. All that said, it's up to his conscience and I wouldn't ask someone. Since I get to pay more tax to make up for all the evaders, I do think it is pretty low. I'm making a general observation, as far as I know he does the right thing. I pay about 50k a year in fed taxes so I don't really care to pay any more so someone else can get a free ride. If I was him I'd reply and set the record straight.

Brad is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable guys on this site. I would appreciate it if you guys would just drop this junk. Let's all assume that he does the right thing. There is no need to call anyone out publicly.

There is also no need to respond to someone who is willing to question your character on the internet. I doubt someone who questions Brad's character would be willing to take his word for it. The only way to prove your honesty is to post your 1040s online. Any takers? Didn't think so.

I don't think that there is any record to set straight. What a person does with their income is no ones business but theirs.I'm sure that he pays enough taxes like the rest of us.If you pay 50 grand a year in taxes,I commend you on having a good income.Subject should be dropped and let the man alone. Scott

If I was you I'd probably try to concentrate on some of the other oxygen thieves who frequent arboristsite and your local neighbourhood (I'm sure there would be some).
Also, if you take a good look around you'll find the vast majority of Brad's advertising comes from his satisfied customers, not Brad himself.
If you pay $50k a year in tax you must be on some pretty big bucks so I'd probably be more pissed off with the government who is taking so much tax than a valued and respected member here.

Although we're in different countries I pay a fair whack of tax too. Now what pisses me off is when I see a whole heap of welfare bludgers sitting on their fat arses doing nothing but being a parasite on society. If I see someone with a real job who may or may not be earning a bit of cash on the side they are the last person I'd lose sleep over. I do cash jobs too and I'll openly admit that. It's those jobs that take my fiancee out for tea, or to the movies, or on a weekend away etc etc.

By the way, I have bought around USD$20k worth of gear this year from the US so I'm pretty sure that my personal cash injection covers a few welfare bums in your country.

Well said!
