Hi all...
I have been away from the site for quite a while since I have been too busy with everything else. I popped on the other day and read something about the Solo 651 and 651SP... I couldn't find it again so I started a new thread. I hope that I don't get boo'ed off because of that. Anyway, as many of you know I am a real fan of Solo saws and I believe that they are the most under rated "good" saw out there these days. I just happened to have a few of these 651's and 651SP saws new. The major difference apart from the red top and some other minor differences is this:

1) 651 has a totally different piston (short and cropped skirt) same jug
2) the 651 has a electronically controlled variable advance ignition module (as opposed to the standard electronic ignition on the 651SP
3) The 651 has a rim drive as opposed to a spur sprocket on the 651SP
4) The 651 has a magnesium sprocket cover and different chain catch arrangement- the 651 has a composite side cover.
I think that the 651 will smoke the Stihl 026 in a straight on competition.

here are some pics of the 2... I have the .pdf parts lists I can email to any one wanting them.

Whatever you short us in posts, you sure make up for in quality. Nice pix, too.

Now is there something you can do about getting a little better sales coverage for the Solo line here in the upper midwest? The closest stocking dealer is about 13 hrs away from me!

Right on Jeff!

I'm also a real fan of the Solo (just in case nobody noticed). I've been singing the praises of these saws and especially the 651 for a long time. I haven't ran against a 3ci saw that can hang with it....including the beloved, fixed fet 026.

The coverage in Illinois seems to be pretty good. I find new dealers all the time. Solo claims to have 1100+ dealers in the US. Maybe they haven't got to Minisoda yet. I got a few names and numbers of Solo distributors out of Yard & Garden Magazine and Power Equipment Trade Magazine.

new edition 651sp

I am the owner of a new edition 651sp. I have a question: differences between 651 and 651sp are the same? 651sp has nikasil * per cylinder? Now I'm sorry I bought 651. but I trust in 651sp. Why do you think about air filter? I disappointed myself. I changed after 60 tanks. it has been fraught bad. do not let air pass. it was good wash after 3-4 tanks. then choke the engine. look below the pictures and movies with my 651sp.

thanks! :chainsaw:

There is a Solo/Dolmar dealer in SW. MI. Sherwood, MI to be exact. If anyone is interested I can give business name, address and ph.#. I have his business card, got to demo a 681 at the Lagrange Co. Steam and Gas Show this summer. I also got to keep a PS 7900 for a day and cut a load of wood, I like the 7900, but was not impressed with the air filtration in stock form, one thing that Solo apparently addressed on the 681.

That makes 5 Stihl dealers within a short drive and 3 Dolmar dealers, one Solo and NO SERIOUS Husqvarna DEALERS within 40 mi. What gives?

I have a 651 that I have had for 5 or 6 years now, I think it is a great saw one of my favorites next to Partners, we had a solo distributor in our area and about 2 years ago they dropped solo, that is the major issue with Solo, no stockig dealers. All the Solos we have are great saws,, just poor parts and dealer network.

$150-ish. They are worth more bc they are very solid, strong saws. But the TOTAL lack of dealer support makes them unattractive for all but the dedicated saw enthusiast. Parts are available directly from Solo. The service I've received is on par with many online sellers and the prices are reasonable. I have one apart and in a box. It's complete and I bought a set of seals and fuel/impulse lines. ONE DAY I'll get around to putting it back together and running it again.
