Howdy gents - hope you like this. Been thinking it out for a few weeks and finally sat down and wrote it out. You know the tune.
I got my first real skip-chain
Bought it at Baileysonline
Touched it and my finger bled
Was the autumn of 89.
When the weather got real cool
Bought a stove and I tried real hard.
Then I quit when I got blisters
Didn’t know the work was so hard.
Oh when I look back now
That winter seemed to last forever.
And if I had the choice
Yeah – I shoulda bought a Dolmar
That was the coldest winter of my life.
Ain’t no use in complainin’
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin’s down at the saw shop
Learnin’ how to mix fuel, yeah.
Freezin’ on my mama’s porch
That winter seemed to last forever.
Oh and when I froze my hand
I knew it wouldn't help to shiver
That was the coldest winter of my life.
Back in the winter of 89.
Man I was killin’ trees
I was young and frigid
I had to stop this freeze
This winter cannot last forever – forever, no, yeah
And now the weather’s changin’
Look at how the snow is almost gone.
Sometimes when I see that old skip-chain
I think about wood, wonder what went wrong.
Freezin’ on my mama’s porch
That winter seemed to last forever.
Oh and when I froze my hand
I knew it wouldn't help to shiver
That was the coldest winter of my life.
