I finally got around to milling some old sugar maple that a friend of mine was going to haul off to the landfill this spring. It had been blown down in a strong storm ad was hollow throughout. I still managed to get 4 usable slabs of beautifully spalted wood from one part of the trunk. I have yet to open up the base piece of the trunk that was removed close enogh to the ground that it tapers out at the base. That will probably be even more iteresting that these first ones. I only have one good pic for now but will take some more tomorrow. The picture is not of great quality but check out the character of this slab!

It measures 49.5"x 19" wide and 2" thick. Can't wait to see what is in the other one.

Looks like pretty stuff... let it dry slowly for a couple years. Any ideas on how you're gonna attach the legs if you do make a coffee table out of that? Will you keep the natural edges?
