Given a typical spark plug with a metal gasket, how many times can you remove and install the plug (with proper torque) before the gasket will leak compression?
Are you supposed to replace the plug once it's removed or what?
The other day my neighbor's saw quit running all of the sudden and he brought it to me to check. I pulled the plug and found a piece of carbon in the spark plug gap. I cleaned it up with some carb cleaner and blew it out with compressed air. Put it back in and it started on the first pull. He asked about reusing the gasket and told I him I thought it would be fine. What do you think, was I right or wrong?

You are right,I re use plugs sometimes with no problem. Not sure how many times you can re tourque them and expect the gasket to seal, but I'll bet the plug would be dead befor that happened.
