Anybody know what spline the John Deere CS62/Efco 162 use?
I'd like to put a 20" 3/8 pitch bar on the CS62 I ordered Monday.

I don't really know, but as they come standard with .325, they probably have the small 7-spline.

The smallest .325 rim that will fit the large 7-spline is the 9-pin.....

8 pins don't always make you quicker. If your bucking allot use a 7, if your cutting sticks use the 8. If you really want to get quicker start running square chain.

I use an 8T with 16" bar on the Stihl 026 and it works great on everything

HMMMM! BS sensor glowing red on this post.

where do you get a small stihl 026 sized rim in .375 8 pin?

They don't make a large spline drum for 026 so no easy way to put an 8 pin 3/8 large spline rim on either.

Do you mean .325 8 pin?

8 pin 3/8 is too much for an 026 work saw, even well ported it will not be served well by that set up. An 026 set up for racing with very good chain might be able to run 3/8 8 but not any work saw with stock chain. Even then it's going to take some custom work to get a 3/8 8 pin rim on an 026.

Ported a 6400 will do fine with 8 pin 3/8, stock likely ok with 16" bar, but would be suffering by the time you went to 20" or more.

:agree2:

My stock Euro 361 (4.6hp) do well with a 15" bar and 3/8x8 for limbing and bucking smaller wood, but I bet 7-pin would be faster in a 15" log - usually do the larger bucking cuts with the felling setup (18" and 7-pin).

I have a couple of older Oregon .404 -8 T rims and I run them on my 066 whenever I run .404 on it ,nice size sprocket for the 066, even better on the 090.

I have run a custom 026 drum done up with large spline so an 8 pin 3/8 gear can be run. At that even a fully ported torque oriented 026 work saw won't pull 3/8 chain with any advantage over 7 pin. I did use it for a bit limbing with 16" bar, but 50cc as a work saw ported or not just does not have the torque to cut wood with a full 3/8 chain and 8 pin gear.
